LIA Victoria Presents Holmesglen Apprenticeship Award

LIA Victoria this week took part in the 25th Annual Awards Festival held by Holmesglen TAFE, providing the prize for the most outstanding 3rd Year Apprentice in Printing Trades to Tan Pham, from Andrew Kohn Pty Ltd.

The trades awards ceremony, held at the institute’s Victorian Tunnelling Centre at Chadstone in Victoria, has been a fixture on the apprenticeship calendar, celebrating the achievements of Holmesglen’s students, staff and industry.

Rounding out the awards for printing, Hannah Coleman from Flying Colours Group took out the award for second-year apprentices, while Mark Pedroni from Fildes Manufacturing won the first-year award and Caroline Moss won the Outstandign Achievement Award.

Robyn Frampton, representing the LIA Victoria, said the association has had a longstanding relationship with Holmesglen, in line with its commitment to supporting education and training, and encouraging and sponsoring career development.

“We are delighted to sponsor these important awards and, in particular, to recognise the achievements of Tan Pham who has been named Holmesglen Institute’s Most Outstanding 3rd Year Apprentice in Printing Trades,” Frampton said, adding that the winner received a certificate of acknowledgement from the LIA and a gift card to the value of $100.

The LIA, whose Victorian chapter has recently reactivated following COVID lockdowns, is also planning a technical evening on 31 May at Southern Impact, and will also have a stand at PacPrint from 28 June – 1 July.

“The LIA welcomes all people in print to join us as we foster connections, share ideas, learn from technical sessions and encourage career development across our diverse and exciting sector,” Frampton said.

LIA Victoria membership is open to individuals at just $45 (ex GST) a year, and corporate members at $150 which covers three transferrable nominations. To find out more about LIA Victoria

LIA Victoria Announces Graduates of the Year

LIA Victoria held its first post-COVID gathering last night, marking the reinvigoration of the Victorian chapter of the industry’s association for ‘all people in print’.

The evening, held at Fujifilm Business Innovation in Richmond, combined a technical evening hosted by LIA Victoria Committee Member, Brett Maishman, covering the latest trends and innovations from Fujifilm.

Maishman, a former LIA Heidelberg Australia Graduate of the Year himself, took a group of some 30 industry personnel on a tour of the company’s showroom, explaining technologies including the new RevoriaTM PC1120 digital production press.

“It was fantastic to welcome visitors to our showroom again to see and discuss the developments which have happened over the past couple of years, before celebrating with some of the industry’s most impressive new talent,” Maishman said, emphasising that winning the Award had made an ‘invaluable’ contribution to his own career.

The technical session was followed by a networking event at which the 2020 and 2021 LIA Heidelberg Australia Graduate of the Year Awards were presented by LIA Victoria President, Robert Black and Committee Member Lindsay Banks.

The 2020 Graduate of the Year was presented to Matilda Milligan from Fildes Food Safety. The other 2020 finalists were Jessica Daniels from Nathalia Printers, and Amel Bilali and Mangaljit Singh, both from Amcor Flexibles in Preston.

Corné Mostert from Norwood Industries in Hallam took out the 2021 Award, from a field which also included Jake Lovell from Willprint in Shepparton and Nick Monshing from North East Media in Wangaratta.

Black, whose own career has focused heavily on training and career development, said Matilda and Corné demonstrated impressive achievements over the course of their training and outstanding potential as a future industry leaders.

“The candidates for both the 2020 and 2021 Awards were enormously impressive, making determining the winners a difficult task,” he said. “We sincerely congratulate our winners and also applaud all the finalists for their commitment, achievements and exemplary conduct throughout the judging process.”

LIA Victoria President, Robert Black, whose involvement in the industry has focused strongly on training and career development, agreed, saying the Awards really sets the LIA apart from other industry associations.
